Director of JCC Harlem

The Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as the Director of JCC Harlem.
Mission of JCC Harlem:
JCC Harlem is a community space on West 118th Street that is welcome to all. An initiative of Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan in collaboration with UJA-Federation of NY, JCC Harlem creates unique and diverse access points to Jewish and communal life for members of the Harlem community. We are an institution that is at once both intentionally Jewish and committed to facilitating experiences between those who identify Jewishly and those who identify otherwise-in service of connecting, growing, and learning within an ever-changing Jewish landscape.
As an Initiative of the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, JCC Harlem is positioned uniquely as an Uptown hub for diverse and vibrant Jewish communal life while receiving organizational, financial and programmatic support from the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (MMJCCM). This role reports to the Chief Program Officer of the MMJCCM.
About the role:
The Director of JCC Harlem is responsible for the day-to-day strategy and management of JCC Harlem, setting the overall direction for the depth and breadth of programs and partnerships that serve and nurture the vibrant and diverse Harlem community.
The Director of JCC Harlem will have the following responsibilities:
Facilitate the development and implementation of a strategic vision for the JCC Harlem that creates a pipeline of programs, relational engagement touchpoints and experiences across the main areas of focus for JCC Harlem:
*Inclusive and robust Jewish Life. The Director will develop and support sophisticated and creative engagement with the Jewish calendar and holiday cycle. This includes but need not be limited to High Holiday Services and celebrations, on-going shabbat programming, and collaboration with Uptown Jewish organizational partners.
*Children and Family programming. Recognizing JCC Harlem's unique position in Harlem's Jewish ecosystem as a centrifuge for children and family engagement, the Director will focus on producing and supporting accessible, high-quality offerings that meet the current needs of the Harlem community.
*Serving as a hyper-local hub. As the Jewish community's most visible Harlem Jewish address, JCC Harlem will be at the forefront of engagement and
partnership in areas of social justice, wellness, civic, and community engagement for the Harlem community.
*Advancing racial equity, both in Harlem and in Jewish communal life. The Director will lead the charge in promoting an organizational ethos, culture, and stance that not only demonstrates understanding and awareness of issues of equity, but that takes an active role in advancing racial equity through its programming, neighborhood engagement and partnerships, and internal operations.
Oversee the JCC Harlem staff which includes programming, operations, and facilities teams. The Director is responsible for identifying, hiring, and managing excellent personnel, as well as setting a compensation structure in partnership with MMJCCM.
Work closely with JCC Harlem's Advisory Board and other key stakeholders and funders to mobilize community engagement with, and build support for, JCC Harlem. This includes serving as the primary relational point of contact with UJA-Federation of New York on behalf of JCC Harlem, in close coordination with senior leadership of MMJCCM. Together with these key stakeholders, the Director will create a strategic plan for the organization.
Cultivating a culture of philanthropy by regularly meeting with key stakeholders, articulating a budgetary vision to donors, and, in partnership with MMJCCM Development staff, increase the philanthropic revenue streams (major gifts, institutional, and at the grassroots level) toward a sustainable business model.
Oversight of JCC Harlem $1.1 million budget; creation and implementation of revenue generating and sustaining strategies.
Oversight of the physical location of JCC Harlem, including supervision of operations and liaising with security professionals.
Skills and Competencies:
Deep commitment to the values of JCC Harlem, including the advancement of social justice, a principled Jewish pluralism, robust engagement with Jewish ideas and tradition, a generous and conscientious placemaking in Harlem, and serving as a laboratory for Jewish life to advance a "new Jewish urbanism."
Clear and well-defined vision for, and commitment to, the unique role that Jewish Community Centers play in the building of a meaningful, diverse Jewish community for individuals and families of all ages and stages.
Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred in Education, Not-For-Profit Management or related field. Rabbinic experience would be celebrated.
Meaningful and in-depth track record of steady professional advancement in the field of non-profit program development and management.
Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience with a demonstrated track record of motivating and energizing others, both paid professionals and volunteers, to share in and work toward a common vision.
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
Outstanding judgment and discretion in handling sensitive matters. Demonstrates integrity and positive attitude.
An enthusiastic, creative, flexible leader who can juggle multiple conflicting priorities and move rapidly from one project to another all while maintaining a sense of humor, humility and a sense of perspective.
Be able to figure out what needs to be done and do it without much direction.Have the maturity and self discipline to manage and shape a dynamic project.
Be able to confidently articulate their own relationship with Jewish life and practice, and be willing to learn and grow Jewishly.
Location and Commitments: This is a leadership position that requires flexibility and deep commitment. Work hours span some evenings and weekends. This is an in-person position at JCC Harlem.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $115-135,000 and includes a generous benefits package including medical, generous paid time off, parental leave, JCC program discounts, and free membership to state-of-the-art fitness and aquatics center at MMJCCM.
